Current Recalls We’re Watching:
Frozen Chicken Recalled in Florida
The UDSA’s Food Safety Inspection Service announced this week that over 130,000 pounds of frozen, fully cooked chicken products have been recalled due to a possible Listeria risk. The chicken was distributed by Big Daddy Foods, Inc., of Houston, TX. According to the recall alert, the chicken products were “further distributed to consumers at local food banks in Florida through the USDA Farmers to Families Food Box program in individual food boxes.” The chicken was distributed from February 24, 2021 – March 1, 2021, and March 29, 2021 – April 8, 2021. Consumers are encouraged to check their freezer for frozen chicken products that may be involved in the recall. For more information regarding distribution locations, click here.
Boston Scientific Stent Recall
The FDA has posted a recall notice for Boston Scientific’s VICI VENOUS STENT System (VICI SDS) and VICI RDS VENOUS STENT System. The stents, which were designed to treat narrowed or blocked veins, were distributed between September 21, 2018 – April 9, 2021. According to the FDA notice, the recall was initiated after it was discovered that the stents could “migrate or move from where they are initially implanted. A migrated stent may require another surgery or catheter procedure to retrieve it, which increases risks to the patient, including possible damage to the blood vessel, heart walls or other organs. If the stent migrates to the heart, it could cause life-threatening injury.” The FDA lists this as a Class I recall (the most serious type – meaning the recalled product may cause serious injury or death).
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) released a recall notice last week for folding chairs and barstools manufactured by Cheyenne Products/Cheyenne Industries. The chairs were sold at Walmart under the Mainstay brand. Nearly 800,000 chairs and barstools are included in the recall. According to the CSPC, there have been numerous reports of the chairs malfunctioning and causing injuries. The manufacturer has advised consumers to stop using the chairs and barstools immediately.
