On May 6, 2021 the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and CFMOTO of Plymouth, MN announced a recall of over 2,000 of the 2021 CFORCE 800XC All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs). The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the electronic power steering (EPS) can malfunction and cause the user to lose control of the vehicle, creating a crash hazard. According to the CPSC recall notice, consumers should stop using the ATVs immediately. On May 13, 2021, Leisure Time Products LLC, of Pittsburg, KS announced a recall of its Backyard Discovery Big Brutus, Little Brutus and Mini Brutus metal A-frame swing sets. The recall was initiated due to a defect that may cause the attachment connecting the swing hanger to the top tube to fail, which could lead to injuries. Approximately 9,000 of Leisure Time’s swing sets are included in the recall. According to the CPSC recall notice, no injuries have been reported, although several consumers have reported instances where the swing attachment failed. The swing sets were sold at Home Depot, Lowes, and online through Wayfair and other retailers from May 2019 through January 2021.
Kidde Smoke Alarm/Carbon Monoxide Detectors
On May 6, 2021 Kidde and the CPSC announced a recall of over 225,000 smoke alarms and combination smoke/carbon monoxide alarms. The recalled devices may fail to warn consumers about a fire or carbon monoxide threat. These products were sold at Walmart, Home Depot, Menards, and on Amazon and Kidde’s online store, as well as other online retainers. Consumers should replace the devices immediately, but should continue using the alarms until they are replaced. A full list of affected devices can be found here.
On May 7, 2021, Novo Nordisk announced a voluntary recall of over 1,000 diabetes medication samples after they were stored at improper temperatures. The recalled medications are used to treat low glucose levels in patients with diabetes. Only product samples are affected, this recall does not include medications distributed by pharmacies or mail-order prescription delivery services. The medication samples that have been recalled include Levemir®, Tresiba®, Fiasp®, Novolog® and Xultophy®. A full list of products with NDC codes and batch numbers can be found here.
On May 12, 2021, The FDA and Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals. Inc announced a voluntary recall of a dietary supplement called Lipodrene that is designed to help users lose weight. According to the FDA’s announcement, Lipodrene was recalled after FDA analysis identified the presence of 1,4-dimethylamylamine (DMAA) in one lot (#001211197). The FDA has previously warned against the use of supplements containing DMAA: “DMAA is an amphetamine derivative that has been marketed in sports performance and weight loss products, many of which are sold as dietary supplements. DMAA is not a dietary ingredient, and DMAA-containing products marketed as dietary supplements are illegal and their marketing violates the law… This substance narrows blood vessels and arteries, which can raise blood pressure, and may lead to cardiovascular problems such as shortness of breath, arrhythmias, tightening in the chest, and heart attack, as well as seizures and other neurological and psychological conditions.” Lipodrene was sold online and through wholesale retainers. Consumers are advised to stop using these supplements immediately.
