Our team of attorneys is currently investigating claims that peaches produced and distributed by Prima Wawona or Wawona Packing Company were the potential source of a Salmonella Enteritidis outbreak.

What We Know About the Peaches Outbreak

According to the CDC, there are 101 reported illnesses from 17 states related to this outbreak in the United States and 28 people have been hospitalized. The CDC advises that all recalled peaches should be thrown away.

Most people infected with Salmonella develop symptoms which include:

  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Stomach cramps
  • Fever

Most illnesses occur within 6 hours to 6 days after eating the contaminated food and most people remain ill for 4 to 7 days. People that have underlying gastrointestinal (GI) issues may be affected more severely, as well as immunocompromised and elderly people.

What We Know About the Peaches Recall

Peaches were recalled by Prima Wawona of Fresno, California on August 22, 2020. The peaches were shipped to retailers between June 1, 2020 and August 3, 2020. Prima Wawona distributed peaches to wholesalers, restaurants and retail stores nationwide and in Canada.

The peaches were distributed and sold in supermarkets in bags with the following product codes:

  • Wawona Peaches – 033383322001

  • Wegmans Peaches – 077890490488

Bulk peaches were typically sold in supermarkets in bins where consumers may select their own fruit and the fruit may have stickers with PLU numbers 4037, 4038, 4044, 4401, 94037, 94038, 94044, 94401.

Lawsuits

These lawsuits are not part of a class action or multi-district litigation (MDL). Each case is unique and remains separate from other cases. The statute of limitations to sue may be only one or two years after the purchase or consumption of the recalled peaches, so we urge victims to seek legal counsel immediately. We are demanding that the food production companies reimburse our clients for their doctor’s bills, lost earnings and pain and suffering.
