CASE ALERT Update: Xeljanz (Tofacitinib) and Xeljanz XR Lawsuits
Our team of attorneys is currently investigating claims that Xeljanz (Tofacitinib) and Xeljanz XR use may be associated with an increased risk of serious heart-related events and cancer.
What We Know About Xeljanz
The FDA already issued two Drug Safety Communications about Xeljanz earlier this year. On February 4, 2021, the FDA issued a Drug Safety Communication alerting that preliminary results from the safety clinical trial show that compared to TNF inhibitor users Xeljanz users have an increased risk of serious heart-related problems and cancer.
On September 1, 2021, the FDA issued another Drug Safety Communication about Xeljanz. The FDA has now concluded that there is an increased risk of “serious heart related events” with Xeljanz and Xeljanz XR, including:
- Heart attack
- Cancer (lung cancer and lymphoma)
- Blood clots
The FDA further confirmed that Xeljanz poses these risks not only at the higher dose, but also at the lower dose. The FDA is now requiring revisions to Xeljanz’s Boxed Warning to include information about the risks of serious heart-related events, cancer, blood clots, and death.
